Negative thoughts in your backswing
|
| Written by Ed McCosh Mind Coach |
My name is Ed McCosh and I'm a Golf Confidence Coach. (see www.edmccoshconfidencecoach.com and below for more info on me and my book that helps players shoot their best scores ever!)
Here is a tip to help you with negative thoughts.
Don't fight your thoughts
You know when you've set yourself up well, you're feeling good, you take the club back and at the very top of your backswing a little voice says something helpful like 'You're going to mess this up'?
Rather than letting this lead to a mishit shot, start to see the voice differently.
The best way to deal with that is to allow the voice to be there. Fighting against your thoughts gives them more power.
Ketchup and ice cream?
Ignore negative thoughts / voices (whether they are yours or someone elses!) - see them like ketchup being in the kitchen when you are about to have ice cream - you don't have to try to get it out of the kitchen - it's ok for it to be there, you just don't have to use it!
Simple, but powerful - and not just on the golf course.
Ed McCosh is the mind coach for the Scottish Ladies Golf Association and Ladies European Tour players.
Ed’s book "How to Improve Your Golf Game And Your Life!" helps golfers of all standards get great results - often shooting their best rounds ever!
It’s a widely accepted fact that the mental game is a massive part of golf. But how many lessons have you had on how to improve your mental game?
In fact, when did anyone teach you how to run your brain full stop? This book is the easy to read instruction manual about how to control the thoughts and feelings that affect your success in golf…and in life. You’ll learn how to: Let go of nerves and anger, maintain a hot streak, instantly regain confidence, improve your accuracy, putt better & much more!
